Meet Sophie

Hello, my name is Sophie I am a three year old Newfoundland.  I didn’t have such a great start to life, born in a puppy mill is not a place for any dog. All of that is behind me now because of Jocelyn and Brent of HANC.  Brent spent a lot of time with me teaching me that life as a dog can be great. Brent and his wife helped build my confidence, show me that people can be kind and teach me the manners that other people would appreciate in a Newfoundland.

I spent a few months with Brent and his other Newfoundlands and had a great time, but it wasn’t my forever home. I was adopted to live with Chris and Jessica in Longmont, Colorado. Chris and Jessica are not my only roomates I share the house with Laila an Aussie/Great Pyrenes puppy, Dorje a Himalayan cat, Penelope Chai a lopped ear bunny and Unsung an African Firebelly Toad.

At first I thought Laila was pretty annoying, as any puppy can be, Jessica and Chris think I have the patience of a saint. Laila and I have become best friends. She has helped me buildmy confidence and get over my anxiety. I sm helping use up her energy and grow into a dog. We do not like to be apart. We do everything together, including waking Chris and Jessica up. They call us the SOLAI alarm clock. Laila has to sleep in a crate (cause she is a puppy in training) and in the morning she starts to cry because she wants to go out, so that is my cue to jump on Chris and Jessica while they are sleeping.  I use my great big feet and show them what Newfie kisses are made of as I pounce on them till they get up.  They have no choice but to get out of bed and let us out and make us breakfast.

I spend my days inside playing with Laila, we have a lot of toys our favorites are stuffed squeaky toys. When it is warm out we play outside in the backyard in our plastic pool.  I lay in it, and Laila does the playing. We like watching how muddy we can turn the water. I love going for rides in the car, especially when they are to the park for a walk. I walk very nice on a leash, I am trying to be a good model for Laila. Today we spent the afternoon at the reservoir where I got to swim.  I have been too nervous to go all the way in the water, but today Chris and Jessica went in with me so it was OK. Laila thinks she is part fish, we are still tired from all of the swimming.  I think swimming in laying in the pool will be how I will keep cool under the hot Colorado sun.

Chris and Jessica are so grateful to HANC.  There are so many dogs that need homes and rescuing is so much more rewarding. Every day they watch me come out of shell a little bit more and see my personality grow. They cannot imagine life without me and because of that they love spoiling me. If it wasn’t for Jocelyn and Brent who knows what my fate would have been. Always consider adopting before buying a dog or puppy and never buy from a puppy mill, know where your potential puppy comes from.
